20 Top Tips

Follow these tips and you will definitely have a much faster and more reliable PC! The win98.jpg icon means that the tip will work best under Windows 98.

1. Wallpapers: They slow your whole system down, so if you're willing to compromise, have a basic plain one instead!

2. Drivers: Update your hardware drivers as frequently as possible.  New drivers tend to increase system speed especially in the case of graphics cards, their drivers are updated by the manufacturer very frequently!

3. Minimizing: If you want to use several programs at the same time then minimize those you are not using.  This helps reduce the overload on RAM.

4. Boot Faster: The 'starting Windows 95/98' message on startup can delay your booting for a couple of seconds.  To get rid of this message go to c:\ and find the file Msdos.sys.  Remove the Read-Only option.  Next, open it in Notepad or any other text editor.  Finally, go to the text 'Options' within the file and make the following changes: Add BootDelay=0.  To make your booting even faster, set add Logo=0 to remove the Windows logo at startup.

5. Restart only Windows: When restarting your PC, hold down Shift to only restart Windows rather than the whole system which will only take a fraction of the time.

6. Turn Off Animationswin98.jpg Go to Display Settings from the Control Panel and switch to the Effects Tab. Now turn off Show Windows Content While Dragging and Smooth Edges on Screen Fonts.  This tip is also helpful with Windows XP because of the various fade/scroll effects.

7. Faster Start-Menu Access: Go to the Start menu and select Run.  Now type Regedit and hit Enter.  The Registry Editor will appear on the screen.  Now, open the folder HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.  You should see a MenuShowDelay value.  If you don't then do the following: right click on a blank space in the right pane and select New\String.  Change the name in the new value to MenuShowDelay.  Now that we have theMenuShowDelay value, double click on it and enter 0 in the value data field.  This sets the start menu delay to 0 milliseconds.8. Resolutions: If you are willing to do anything for faster performance from your PC, then try lowering your display resolution.  The lower it is, the faster your PC.

9. Turn off Active Desktopwin98.jpg Go to your Display Properties and switch to the Web tab.  Uncheck View My Active Desktop As a Web Page.  Since the Active Desktop option under Windows 98 uses a lot of system resources, this option can have a dramatic effect on the speed of the whole system.

10. Defragment Oftenwin98.jpg Windows 98's Defrag tool uses Application Acceleration from Intel which means that when you defragment your drive, data is physically arranged on the drive so that applications will load faster.

11. Take your PC to Bedwin98.jpg Using the Advanced Power Management feature under Windows 98 gives you the option to use the sleep command.  That way, you can send your PC to sleep instead of shutting it down and then restarting it.  It's as simple as pressing a button and then pressing the same button to wake it up.  You can tell Windows after how many minutes/hours of inactivity to automatically sleep the machine in the Advanced Power Management section of the Control Panel.

12. Faster Internet Access: If you use the internet for reference and the sites you visit are rarely  updated then try the following.  In IE (the same can be done in Netscape) go to ToolsInternet Options.  Next, click on Settings... in the Temporary Internet Files  section.  Finally, select Never for the first option and double the amount of storage space to use, click OK!

13. Benchmarking: Benchmarking can be very useful when run frequently.  It can tell you how your PC's components are performing and then compare them to other machines like yours.  For example, when you overclock your PC, you want to know how much more speed you have and whether it is stable.  All this and more can be discovered using benchmarking.  An excellent piece of software for doing this job is SiSoft Sandra which can be found in the Downloads File Archive!

14. Refresh the Taskbar without restarting: If you in some way change the taskbar, either in Regedit or elsewhere, you can refresh the task bar without restarting.  Hold down Ctrl Alt Del, and double click on Explorer.  SayYes to close Explorer, but no to closing Windows.  This will refresh the Taskbar and system tray.

15. Quick CD Eject: Instead of pushing the button on your drive, right-click your CD drive letter in My Computer and click on Eject.  This will also remove any icons that have become associated with the CD drive.

16. Start Up Programswin98.jpg Windows can be slowed down when programs run on start up.  To eliminate this, check your Start up folder.  You can access it from the start menu: StartProgramsStart Up.  Another way to eliminate programs from loading even before Windows actually starts is by doing the following: Click on Start, thenRun.  Type msconfig.  It will take quite a long time for this program to load, but when you finally see it on your screen, explore the different tabs.  They all have to do with how quickly your PC boots, so select what you want, and uncheck what you don't want!

17. Fonts: When Windows starts, it loads every single font in the Fonts folder.  Therefore, the more fonts you have, the slower the booting process.  To get rid of unwanted fonts, simply go to the Fonts folder under c:\windows and remove whatever you don't want.  Fonts that have a red letter 'A' as their icon are system fonts, so don't delete them.

18. Stretching Wallpaperswin98.jpg Don't "stretch" your wallpaper in Windows 98 since it actually slows Windows down when you drag icons around on the desktop.

19. RAM Matters: If you have less than 32MB then you should seriously think of upgrading it to at least 64MB.  Windows runs much more smoothly with 64MB or higher and tends to use less hard disk space for virtual memory.

20. Partitioning: A very nice little thing you can do to boost system performance.  By partitioning your hard drive, splitting one physical drive into several logical ones, you can gain several advantages.  1. If you get a virus or you accidentally format a drive, not all will be lost.  2. By placing the swap file (Win386.swp) on a separate drive, The swap file will be less fragmented and thus, faster. 3. Place Windows on a separate drive and whenever you need to reinstall it, you rest assured that your data is safe on a separate drive.  Partitioning can be done using a few programs such as FDisk which comes with DOS.  However, FDisk formats everything on the hard disk before partitioning. Alternatively, you can use Partition Magic from Power Quest to partition your hard disk without losing your data.

Software to Monitor Hard Disk Mother Board and CPU of Windows Machine

Wondering how to monitor your hardware to avoid disasters? Well if are, then this might be the software you are looking for. Hardware Sensors Monitor does the same for you. The software monitors your hardware on regular basis and prevents system crash due to the overheating of any of the hardware’s like (Mother Board or CPU).
How does this actually work? That’s probably the next question you might have in your mind right now. Well, the software gets the stats from the sensors available in the motherboard and reports it to you. Things like Hard disk temperature, CPU fans that extract heat and their RPM rate are monitored along with the voltage supply.
You will also be given an option to choose the maximum voltage as a threshold and once that value is crossed, you will get an alert. This alert can be a audio clip or a executable file that reports error on your desktop. You can also choose to power off the machine before it’s too late.

How to Choose Best Touch Screen Mobile

Touch screen mobile phones from branded companies like Apple, HTC, SAMSUNG, Nokiaare most likely good. However, there are few companies who promote cheap touch screen phones that can impress few of those who can’t really afford to get those branded ones.
If you are wondering about getting a touch screen phone, then here are some of the things you should take into account.
SCREEN:
Well, most people buy these touch screen phones only because of the screen. Check out the touch screen capability and the sensitivity of the phone before you buy. Also look for the on phone keyboard and its crispiness.
PROCESSOR:
The second thing you should check for is the processor. The more the processor, the better the performance. Prices of most touch screen phones changes because of the processor. If you are looking for a phone around 15000 rupees then check out a phone that has at least 800 Mhz processor, which is quite good.
RAM:
RAM is yet another crucial aspect to check out when you choose to buy a good touch screen phone. The more ram you have the better data transfer performance it offers. 256 MB of RAM is pretty much prescribed for a good touch screen phone.
BATTERY:
Any touch screen phone that has a good display consumes lot of battery. So make to check out the capacity of the battery before you get one. 1250 – 1500 mAh is a quite good battery I should say.
So, these are some of the factors you should take into account while getting a touch screen phone. Hope you liked this article. Do let me know (from the comments section) if I missed few points.

Tamanna Interview about 100% Love Movie

What is better? Two years of higher secondary education followed by four years of engineering programme or three years of engineering education after three years of study in a polytechnic college?

There are definite advantages in pursuing engineering programmes after polytechnic education, according to heads of polytechnic colleges. Not only do the students get job-ready at minimal expenditure, they also enjoy the comfort of exercising the options to pursue B.E. in engineering colleges through lateral entry or take up part-time B.E. programmes offered through technical universities while in jobs, even without having to spend additional time, the polytechnic heads reason out.
In a government polytechnic, it is possible for a student to complete the three-year programme by spending less than Rs. 10,000, said P. Kamatchi, principal, Government Polytechnic College, Tiruchi. For a student from a middle-class background, it makes sense to join polytechnics, get into a job and then pursue engineering on a part-time basis without causing financial burden on the family, she explained.
In fact, the trend of Class X students switching over to polytechnic education with the idea of securing admission in engineering colleges through lateral entry has been catching up in the recent years. At least 25 per cent of students join polytechnics with the idea of studying further in engineering colleges.
With polytechnic colleges and engineering colleges numbering almost equal in Tamil Nadu — over 400 in both cases — a need for substantial enhancement of quota for lateral entry admissions in engineering colleges has become imperative, according to S. Sangapillai, principal of Seshasayee Institute of Technology. It is just 10 per cent now. It is in view of the inherent advantages that the socio-economic condition of students is gradually ceasing to be a factor in polytechnic admissions. Earlier, rural students with high scores used to be admitted in polytechnic colleges. But now, students from upper middle class background also seek admissions. Almost every year, the placements have been cent per cent in almost all the branches, Mr. Sangapillai observed.
Another interesting trend is that girls are choosing core branches without inhibition. Traditionally, girls had been choosing the Computer Science or ECE branch in polytechnics. But now, they choose core branches almost on a par with boys. Of late, girls are also recruited for process industries. Instances of girls working in shifts in shop floor are not uncommon in industrialised parts of Tamil Nadu.
Ideally, the entire intake of engineering students must be from polytechnics if the objective of making all the engineering graduates employed has to be fulfilled, R.S. Kala, principal, Padmabhushan Sri N. Ramaswami Ayyar Memorial Polytechnic College, Tiruchi, said.
For meeting the manpower requirements at shop floor, industries make a beeline to polytechnics rather than engineering colleges. Even in engineering colleges those admitted through lateral entry after polytechnic education stand a better chance to land good jobs, Mr. Sangapillai explained.
There is no dearth of job opportunities in the scenario of phenomenal expansion in infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. The present challenge lies in generating the right human resource for the booming economy. The solution to the challenge, Ms. Kala said, could certainly be found by making diploma the base for engineering education.

Vamsi Padipalli angry with Mahesh Babu

Vamsi Padipalli angry with Mahesh Babu

Scoring a hit ultimately lands you in a zone where you can demand what you want. After the stupendous success of 'Brindavanam', Vamsi Paidipalli is heard like that. Now, signing a flick with Ram Charan took him to heights.

All these positive developments are making Vamsi Paidipalli to talk raw about anyone in the industry, which is not good for him. He is angry on Superstar Mahesh Babu for not completing 'Dookudu' on time, though the romantic hero is not at all a cause for that. Reason behind the seriousness is that his girlfriend Samantha has lost 2-3 projects because of this flick. He was even uncertain whether to cast Samantha in Ram Charan's flick or not, due to the prolonged delay of 'Dookudu'

On the other hand, Samantha's career is not rocketing like she expected though she had a blockbuster image with her sensational beauty show in 'Brindavanam'. To project her image clean, Samantha talking cool about this Mahesh Babu - Sreenu Vytla's combo. So, Vamsi is taking the charge to fire though it helps no way in the completion of 'Dookudu'

HOW TO CREATE ABSTRACT FOR MINI PROJECTS

Abstract
Because on-line search
databases typically contain only
abstracts, it is vital to write a
complete but concise description
of your work to entice potential
readers into obtaining a copy of
the full paper. This article
describes how to write a good
computer architecture abstract
for both conference and journal
papers. Writers should follow a
checklist consisting of:
Motivation, problem statement,
approach, results, and
conclusions. Following this
checklist should increase the
chance of people taking the time
to obtain and read your complete
paper.
Introduction
Now that the use of on-line
publication databases is
prevalent, writing a really good
abstract has become even more
important than it was a decade
ago. Abstracts have always
served the function of "selling"
your work. But now, instead of
merely convincing the reader to
keep reading the rest of the
attached paper, an abstract must
convince the reader to leave the
comfort of an office and go hunt
down a copy of the article from a
library (or worse, obtain one
after a long wait through inter-
library loan). In a business
context, an "executive summary"
is often the only piece of a report
read by the people who matter;
and it should be similar in
content if not tone to a journal
paper abstract.
Checklist: Parts of an Abstract
Despite the fact that an abstract
is quite brief, it must do almost
as much work as the multi-page
paper that follows it. In a
computer architecture paper, this
means that it should in most
cases include the following
sections. Each section is typically
a single sentence, although there
is room for creativity. In
particular, the parts may be
merged or spread among a set
of sentences. Use the following
as a checklist for your next
abstract:
Motivation:
Why do we care about the
problem and the results? If the
problem isn't obviously
"interesting" it might be better to
put motivation first; but if your
work is incremental progress on
a problem that is widely
recognized as important, then it
is probably better to put the
problem statement first to
indicate which piece of the larger
problem you are breaking off to
work on. This section should
include the importance of your
work, the difficulty of the area,
and the impact it might have if
successful.
Problem statement:
What problem are you trying to
solve? What is the scope of your
work (a generalized approach, or
for a specific situation)? Be
careful not to use too much
jargon. In some cases it is
appropriate to put the problem
statement before the motivation,
but usually this only works if
most readers already understand
why the problem is important.
Approach:
How did you go about solving or
making progress on the
problem? Did you use simulation,
analytic models, prototype
construction, or analysis of field
data for an actual product? What
was the extent of your work (did
you look at one application
program or a hundred programs
in twenty different programming
languages?) What important
variables did you control, ignore,
or measure?
Results:
What's the answer? Specifically,
most good computer
architecture papers conclude
that something is so many
percent faster, cheaper, smaller,
or otherwise better than
something else. Put the result
there, in numbers. Avoid vague,
hand-waving results such as
"very", "small", or "significant." If
you must be vague, you are only
given license to do so when you
can talk about orders-of-
magnitude improvement. There
is a tension here in that you
should not provide numbers that
can be easily misinterpreted, but
on the other hand you don't
have room for all the caveats.
Conclusions:
What are the implications of your
answer? Is it going to change
the world (unlikely), be a
significant "win", be a nice hack,
or simply serve as a road sign
indicating that this path is a
waste of time (all of the previous
results are useful). Are your
results general, potentially
generalizable, or specific to a
particular case
